EA Announces Shutdown of Origin Service on PC and Mac: Upgrade Required for 32-Bit Users
Electronic Arts (EA) has officially announced that its Origin service for PC and Mac will shut down on April 17. Players using 32-bit operating systems will lose access to their game libraries unless they upgrade to a 64-bit system.
In statements shared on the EA Help support page, the company explained that Origin’s closure aligns with broader shifts in software support.

EA attributed the shutdown to the end of 32-bit software support by major operating system providers. A statement for PC users cites Microsoft’s decision to stop supporting 32-bit software, while the statement for Mac users highlights Apple’s similar transition.
Switching to the EA App
To continue accessing their games, players must download the EA App, which will fully replace Origin for both PC and Mac platforms. EA assures players that their game libraries, saved data, and account details will seamlessly transfer to the new platform:
- “Log in to the EA App with the same account you use for Origin,” the statement explains.
- “Any games you had on Origin will be ready to play, with in-game hours and cloud saves preserved during the transition.”

The EA App only supports 64-bit operating systems, meaning players on older 32-bit PCs or Macs will lose access to their games unless they upgrade.
